AI collapsed the cost of making content. What it didn’t do is make content work.
Showreel — 20 seconds, silent
One film a year became one film per campaign.
The budget line didn’t change. What it buys did.
A film that has to last a year has to say everything, so it says nothing in particular. A film that belongs to one campaign can be specific — one product, one segment, one objection — and specific is what moves a technical buyer.

“They mapped the different audiences, looked at what motivated them and where we were most likely to reach them, then went into the field to test those assumptions before producing anything.”
“One of the biggest barriers was trust. People often hear ‘refurbished’ and assume there must be something wrong with the product. The work Pixel Flares created helped us explain the value much more clearly and gave customers more confidence before they even spoke to us.”
“We needed the brand to work for two very different audiences: people sending money home to family and UK businesses looking for finance. Pixel Flares helped us find a way to make both sides feel part of the same business without making the brand feel confused or split.”
“Having the website and the advertising handled together made a real difference. We weren’t dealing with one team blaming the traffic and another blaming the site — the whole customer journey was looked at together, so it was much easier to see what actually needed improving.”
The moat isn’t the AI. It’s story direction plus the growth wrapper — deploy, target, report.

I trained as a civil engineer and never practiced a day of it. I went into marketing in 2018, and spent the years since running demand for manufacturers, hospitals and software companies.
Engineering leaves you with one useful habit: you assume the thing will fail, and you go looking for where. It turns out to be a decent way to read a marketing brief.
Most B2B films fail in the same place. The tool got cheaper; the brief didn’t get better. A film nobody directed is an expensive slideshow — and the cost of making one just collapsed, which means a great many more of them are coming.
That’s the bet. Generation is the commodity now. Direction isn’t, and won’t be soon.
I work between Manchester and Lilongwe. Most of the time that’s just biography. Once it meant we could go and ask five districts what they actually thought.
